Suite Melody Care Broadens Reach with Vancouver Chapter

Suite Melody Care (SMC) is thrilled to announce the launch of our Vancouver Chapter. As one of Canada’s most active musical and cultural centres, Vancouver will be SMC’s first Chapter in Western Canada and fourth Chapter in North America.

Suite Melody Care, in its eighth year, was established in 2012 as a youth, volunteer initiative. Now a national, not-for-profit, pre-COVID SMC was sharing over 100 themed, interactive, volunteer performances with hospitals, long-term care facilities, and retirement residences in Southern Ontario, Iowa, and Houston.

Canadian Pianist Linda Ruan, studying her Master’s of Music at The Juilliard School, will lead the Vancouver Chapter. Linda states, “I'm very excited to join the team of SMC and I'm looking forward to giving back to the community which had supported me throughout my early years of development. I'm excited to find like-minded artists and build a community of artist citizens to engage with communities in and around Vancouver!”

Founder & Chair Leslie Ashworth expresses, “I am delighted to have Linda join the Suite Melody Care team and extend our reach in the Vancouver area with this new Chapter. I can’t think of a better person and musician to represent SMC in her community.”

Vancouver Chapter Lead, Linda Ruan

Named one of CBC's Hot 30 under 30 Canadian Classical Musicians, pianist Linda Ruan has performed

in some of the world’s most prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York. Notable past performances include appearances with Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, Royal Conservatory Orchestra, and Xinghai Philharmonic Orchestra; and performances in North America, Asia and Europe. Linda completed her Bachelor of Music with Honours at The Glenn Gould School under the tutelage of James Anagnoson and Li Wang.

Suite Melody Care shares over 100 live, themed, interactive, youth performances annually, reaching thousands of audience members in retirement residences, hospitals, and long-term care facilities with Chapters in Southern Ontario, Iowa, Houston, and Vancouver. During COVID, SMC is producing SMC Virtual Performances being shared with hospital patients and the elderly throughout Canada and the U.S.
